Written by:

Introduction

I recently attended the Hyperledger Belgium conference at the Howest campus in Bruges. This event offered a deep dive into Europe’s journey towards decentralized digital infrastructure, showcasing the transformative impact of Web3 technologies.

The Event

The conference kicked off with Daniel Du Seuil discussing the transformation of the European Blockchain Service Infrastructure (EBSI) into the European Digital Infrastructure Consortium (EDIC) Europeum. He outlined the challenges and opportunities for the Web3 community, emphasizing its role in supporting a decentralized economy and society.

Philippe Rixhon followed with a talk on creating a blockchain-based copyright infrastructure for Europe. He explained the collaborative efforts across various countries to protect and reward creators transparently and fairly using blockchain technology.

The final presentation by Wim Van Renterghem and Shane Deconinck from Howest University highlighted the university’s initiatives in Web3 education. They detailed how Howest supports the Web3 community through masterclasses, webinars, and micro-degrees, driven by Hyperledger technologies.

Reflection

The most notable part of the conference was exploring the possibilities of Web3 in a European context, particularly around digital identities. The networking session was equally valuable, allowing me to connect with key figures in the blockchain industry and exchange ideas.

Conclusion

The Hyperledger Belgium conference was a comprehensive exploration of Europe’s decentralized digital future. The insights and connections made during this event will shape my understanding and approach to blockchain technologies. For anyone interested in the future of digital infrastructure and Web3, such events are invaluable.
